A new material called ‘nanogels’ could store solar energy for weeks or even years. The nanogel consists of molecules made up of atoms of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. When hit by sunlight, the molecules change shape and absorb the energy. This process releases heat. The researchers say this could be used to make cheap batteries for mobile phones and laptops.
